Music is the theme onboard the Zaandam and that theme is evident in every part of this lovely ship. Launched in 2000 and accommodating up to 1,440, the Zaandam has a lighthearted and fun tone, while maintaining the elegance that Holland America is known for. Decor includes a working organ in the main atrium, as well as an amazing collection of rock and roll memorabilia-there is even a guitar signed by the Rolling Stones. Accommodations are comfortable and airy, with standard cabins measuring just under 200 feet and 197 of the staterooms offering private balconies. All cabins have flat screen televisions and DVD players, as well as top-of-the-line bed linens and toiletries.

Activities and entertainment include events such as cooking demonstrations at the Culinary Arts Center, live shows and music in the Mondriaan Show Lounge, or clubbing it at the Crow’s Nest. Guests can keep their fitness levels in top shape at the modern gymnasium, one of the two outdoor pools or walking on the wrap-around promenade deck. Relaxing afternoons can be had at the Greenhouse Spa and Salon, or enjoy some late night gambling action at the casino.

The Rotterdam Dining Room is the main dining option, with standard breakfast and lunch open seatings and assigned seating at dinner. They also offer an afternoon tea. The Lido Restaurant has a casual buffet style arrangement, and for those passengers wanting to enjoy a special evening, the reservations-only Pinnacle Grill is an excellent choice. Holland America is currently upgrading its dining options to an “As You Wish” program that provides flexible seating for guests. The Zaandam should be operating this program by winter of 2008.
